Raising a Reader: Modernizing a Beloved National Literacy Brand

Raising a Reader is a nationally recognized leader in early literacy, known for its iconic “red bag” program that helps families build strong shared reading habits. When the organization set out to refresh its visual identity and redesign its website, the challenge was balancing meaningful modernization with respect for a brand parents, educators, and partners deeply trusted.

As Creative Director, I led a brand evolution that introduced a bright, modern logo and visual system designed to capture Raising a Reader’s energy, warmth, and commitment to family engagement. We crafted messaging that distilled their vision for literacy and parent involvement into a clear, inspiring narrative. To support the launch, we produced a full suite of assets, including presentation decks, templates, and a new illustration system that brought the refreshed brand to life.

The redesigned website expanded this evolution into a user-centered digital experience. Built with accessibility, clarity, and storytelling at its core, the site speaks directly to parents, educators, and partners while showcasing the organization’s expanded impact. By integrating the updated branding, imagery, and messaging, the new site delivers a cohesive and compelling expression of Raising a Reader’s mission and positions the organization as a modern leader in the literacy space.
